Did you know? It takes over 20lbs of petals to make just 5ml of rose otto oil?
…That’s five dozen roses per drop!
Here are a few of my top-to-toe favourite rose-scented must-haves for whenever – day or night, winter, spring, summer or fall… Mother’s Day or any day!
SOAK IT UP Step away from the shower and get back in the bath for just 15 minutes of true peace. I can never get enough of this classic REN Moroccan Rose Otto Bath Oil, £31: it’s like being wrapped in pure heaven.
SKIN SHOT The divine By Terry Liftessence Oil Elixir, £95. While for irritated, lined, blemished and acne-prone skin, try rosehip oil instead. I can’t praise
ROSEBUD LIPS The new Jo Malone London English Mist & Ginger Lip Care £20, has luscious rose flower wax and moringa butter enriched with mint and ginger. Just yum!
FRESHEN UP The ultimate refresh at any time of the day or night, a little rosewater such as this Kora Organics Balancing Rose Mist, £26 at net-a-porter.com, reduces hot flushes, relieves redness, calms, refreshes and rehydrates skin from the gym to the office, to your bedside. It even helps refresh your makeup midway through the day too; great for the coming warmer months ahead.
HANDS ELBOWS KNEES AND TOES One of my favourite, age-defying handcreams is Chantecaille Retinol Hand Cream with rose and vitamin C, £62, designed for transforming dry, parched, crepey skin on the backs of your hands. Light and nourishing, it absorbs instantly and leaves no oiliness.
MASK IT Love a sheet mask, but my fave creamy, non drying treat is…Sisley Paris Black Rose Cream Mask, £99, with rose and magnolia oil is a favourite among beauty experts. I’ve yet to hear anything other than praise … except ‘it’s not a fiver’!
ROSE-TINTED Channel your inner artist with this limited edition Chanel Rosa Tempera Poudre À Lèvres Tinted Lip Powder, a fab dual palette consisting of a clear lip balm and a rosy pink lip powder to dab on top. Designed by the artistic skills of MUA Lucia Pica to echo the tempera paint technique of mixing colour pigment by hand to apply fresh over the balm for a ‘just-kissed’ stain it’s kinda nice on cheeks too.
MASSAGE ME ‘Anytime, anywhere’ I say, with Jurlique Rose Body Oil, £38. When time’s short: massage a couple of drops on each foot (then pop on socks), do a mini clockwise stroke on your chest (and heart) for 2-3 minutes, then rub any residue into knees, elbows, and cuticles.
HAIR DETOX Rose doesn’t just refresh skin, Christophe Robin Cleansing Volumising Paste with Pure Rassoul Clay and Rose Extracts, £32, works into the scalp like a paste and transforms with water to give hair an really deep detox shampoo.
LIVING WELL…WITH ROSE
Rose oil is, without doubt, one of the most exquisite ingredients used in skincare, but it’s everywhere. Only opt for brands that choose a high-quality oil for the best benefits to your skin and your senses: always use your nose as the best guide.
#JOINTHEKNOW: Known as the “Queen of Flowers”, rose, is synonymous with love and romance, yet has the ability to calm our senses, balance our hormones, and make us love ourselves way more. That might be why it’s deemed the number one ingredient from serums to soaks, cleansers to cuticles, to soothe and repair dry, dull mature skin.
