AGELESS EYES: DO YOU NEED A SEPARATE EYE CREAM?

Do I really need a different anti-ageing eye product from my face?

I get asked this question all the time. Yes, I think we can all benefit from a separate eye cream or serum, as face creams can be too heavy, causing watery eyes and puffiness. It always surprises me how many women don’t use anything at all, but regret it once they get to 50+. The older I get, the more I see the difference an eye cream makes to my own skin, helping to soften and smooth this most expressive part of the face. And let’s face it, in my 25 years I’ve tried a fair few.

“An expressive face ages fastest,” says Dr Maryam Zamani, a leading oculoplastic surgeon and aesthetic doctor at the Cadogan Clinic in London www.drmaryamzamani.com.

Meaning that the real secret to ageless eyes is to not show any sign of life: no smiles, no laughter, NOTHING! Well that’s not going to happen, right? What’s not to love about laughter lines that crease up with happiness and joy and signify a life well lived? We admire them in others…let’s love them in ourselves. Daily eye care will help us look the best way we can, whatever our age and stage in life.

FOR AN AGELESS EYE LIFT AT HOME choose one of my firm favorite eye products.

(top to bottom)

BABY LINES 25+ Do wear sunglasses whenever possible. I didn’t when I was younger and regret it now I’m older. Choose a lightweight, brightening eye serum such as Vichy Liftactiv Serum 10 Eyes, with softening ceramides (fatty acid based lipids found naturally in the skin) to nourish eyes and lashes too.

EXPRESSION LINES 40+ You love the look when they’re super nourished do a little layering of serum, then cream to really soften and hydrate those early fine lines that can often simply be dehydration. Check out Olay Eye Ultimate Eye Cream, a tinted eye cream that aims to work on every eye concern you may have, from dark circles and puffiness to wrinkles too, in the entire new Olay Eye Collection.

CREPEY SKIN 50+ A new favorite is Elemis Pro-Definition Eye & Lip Contour Cream, that I’ve used daily since trying it during an incredible Elemis Biotec Facial. My eyes definitely look and feel more hydrated and softened.

SMOKER ANY AGE Whatever your age, smoking is a pollutant that increases your need for antioxidant care even more just in the sun. As just envisage how the smoke billows up towards your eyes. Try MZ Skin Soothe & Smooth Eye Cream with kahai oil rich in vitamin A and E, smoothing ceramides, peptides, and hyaluronic acid; then top off with my fave Estee Lauder ANR Concentrated Recovery Eye Mask, £10 for one, to plump up dryness. Great for a big event.

+ Itchy tired eyes Especially now we’re in Spring … Optrex Warming Eye Mask, £7.99 for eight, these disposable eye masks activate on contact with the air, warm up to emit a gentle, warming steam designed to soothe weary eyes. Rather love these.

I’d really love to know your eye concerns – and your attitude to aging (we’re all doing it from the moment we’re born!) –  so please do subscribe & post a comment below.
